Macs still make me drool
I surprised myself today. I saw a room full of Macs and my eyes were bugging out of my head and my tongue was flapping and drool was…well drooling.
You see, today I started a writing course at my local tertiary college and our classroom was just across from the graphic design students’ classroom - a computer lab full of G4 iMacs and PowerMacs with Studio Displays. What a stunning sight they made. (Unlike the computer lab full of black Dells at which I barely batted an eyelid.)
I’ve owned a Titanium PowerBook for nearly three years now and my wife has a blue G3 iBook and kids have a ruby G3 iMac and I’m seeing Macs online all the time, so I woulda thought I’d be over the eye bugging, tongue flapping and mouth drooling. But no.
So just how good is the design of Macs if they can still evoke that sort of reaction in me?
It must be a great inspiration to the design students.

I get excited everytime I see a Mac used as a prop on TV. “Hey, did you see, she was using an iMac?”
I know what you mean. Macs are beautiful. Even the older ones, like the G4 desktop and G3 laptop lines are amazing. If I had to decide between the G5 and G4 iMacs based purely on aesthetics, I would possibly even go for the G4.
And Macs are great on TV. I remember Chandler (Friends) having an old Powerbook, and Diane Keaton using an iMac in “Somethings Gotta Give.”
I saw some macs and went ewwwww once, until I got a iPod. then I went, awesome. Symbol of power yo.
