I have to agree with several of the comments regarding the definition of innovation. There is a great deal of innovation involved in taking a concept and making it functionable and marketable. And as said above, the ranch dressing analogy is not quite appropriate since Clorox made the product worse in order to get it to the market. I think that that is a better analogy for MS.
I'd love to have this for a media center, where I could access all my music from my laptop wirelessly and play it through my airport express. Oh, that would be cool.
Yeah, I don't see this as a demise of firewire, just that with the ipod nano they only had room for one, as well as there potentially being some cost issues, so they stuck with the one that has the greatest compatibility across platforms.
